According to the National Standards for Foreign Language Learning in the
Twenty-first Century, principles of sound language teaching should reflect
the importance of intercultural communication. The Spanish program at Jackson
provides a solid base of Spanish language skills. The purpose of the program
is to introduce our students to the Hispanic world and gradually to increase
awareness of cultural similarities and differences, while promoting a deeper
understanding and respect for others.
The development of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills is enriched by games, puppetry, map work, contests and a variety of teacher-created materials. Special cultural events are celebrated through music, dance, art and sampling of native recipes.
