Our Mathematics program strives to extend our students’ understanding
of problem solving and their capacity to reason and communicate mathematically.
Students are exposed to a broad range of content, demonstrating the value
of math as a way of thinking and applying it to other disciplines and real
life situations. Our curriculum meets the standards of the National Council
of Teachers of Mathematics.
For our younger students, we present math concepts in a real-world context. We encourage students to use their everyday experiences and intuition to deepen their mathematical understanding. Lessons are presented to motivate students to more actively see the math that is part of their world.
Approaching and successfully solving story problems, at every grade, is an important focus of our program. Once students recognize the presence and power of math, our program introduces them, in age-appropriate ways, to numeration, whole numbers, word problems, fractions and decimals, algebra, geometry, time and money, probability, statistics and graphing and measurement. In class, teachers present lessons, provide practice time and assign homework to reinforce a topic. Opportunities for review and assessment follow. Our primary goal for our Mathematics program is to captivate students and generate excitement in learning mathematical concepts all while developing reasoning and problem solving skills.
