Academics — Latin for Grades 5 and 6
The Latin program at the Jackson School is being introduced to grades 5 and 6 during the 2007-2008 academic year. Students will use Latin Primer, Book I, by Martha Wilson. This series places a strong emphasis on vocabulary at the beginning levels. One of the goals of the program is to assist students in developing skills that will strengthen and increase their vocabulary through the recognition of Latin derivatives in English and the use of a dictionary for determining the etymology of English words. In addition to vocabulary, the course will include grammar, Latin quotes and expressions, simple translation work and some Roman history and culture.
